THE WATSON RESIDENCE

Individual Project , First Year, Spring 2020

Skills Used: SketchUp & hand rendering

The Watson Residence is a small two story house designed to emulate the Arts and Crafts style from the late 1800's. As the inspiration for many design ideas in the project, Elbert Hubbard’s style can be seen throughout.  Interior selections for the spaces reflect his style through the consideration of color, furniture, and the overall feel of Elbert Hubbard's aesthetic. Several furniture pieces within the space are reflective of the Arts and Crafts styled Roycroft Inn, identifiable by their small straight slats and angled sides.  Similarly, the Roycroft Inn fireplace was used as inspiration for the fireplace in the living room. Throughout each space, fabric was chosen that resembled those from the Arts and Crafts period but also went well with the color scheme in each room. Overall, the inspiration shown through Elbert Hubbard’s style can be clearly seen through the furniture design, use of color, and fabric selection.
